Description
Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, these baked jalapeno poppers are the ultimate game day appetizer. They offer a perfect balance of spicy heat and smooth cheese flavor with a crunchy breadcrumb topping.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12–15 medium jalapeno peppers
- 8 oz full-fat brick cream cheese, softened to room temperature
- 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
- 1 cup low-moisture mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 1/2 cup plain dried breadcrumbs (or panko)
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- Wash jalapenos thoroughly. Slice them in half lengthwise. Carefully scrape out seeds and white membranes using a small spoon or finger (wear gloves to avoid irritation). Place peppers cut-side up on the baking sheet and pat dry.
- In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Spoon the cheese mixture generously into each jalapeno half, pressing down slightly to remove air pockets.
- In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with a little extra smoked paprika. Lightly brush the tops of the filled poppers with vegetable oil.
- Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over each popper, pressing gently to adhere.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until peppers are tender and the topping is golden brown and crispy.
- Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes to allow the filling to set. Serve warm.
Notes
Always wear gloves when handling jalapenos to prevent skin irritation. Ensure cream cheese is fully softened for a smooth filling. Pat peppers dry before filling to ensure the breadcrumb topping sticks properly. Do not overbake to keep peppers tender but firm. For extra crunch, toast breadcrumbs in a dry pan before using.
