Baked Jalapeno Poppers: Easy Game Day Bite

  • Author: angela_woods
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 24-30 poppers 1x

Description

Crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, these baked jalapeno poppers are the ultimate game day appetizer. They offer a perfect balance of spicy heat and smooth cheese flavor with a crunchy breadcrumb topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1215 medium jalapeno peppers
  • 8 oz full-fat brick cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, freshly grated
  • 1 cup low-moisture mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup plain dried breadcrumbs (or panko)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Wash jalapenos thoroughly. Slice them in half lengthwise. Carefully scrape out seeds and white membranes using a small spoon or finger (wear gloves to avoid irritation). Place peppers cut-side up on the baking sheet and pat dry.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  4. Spoon the cheese mixture generously into each jalapeno half, pressing down slightly to remove air pockets.
  5. In a small bowl, mix breadcrumbs with a little extra smoked paprika. Lightly brush the tops of the filled poppers with vegetable oil.
  6. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over each popper, pressing gently to adhere.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes until peppers are tender and the topping is golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove from oven and let cool for a few minutes to allow the filling to set. Serve warm.

Notes

Always wear gloves when handling jalapenos to prevent skin irritation. Ensure cream cheese is fully softened for a smooth filling. Pat peppers dry before filling to ensure the breadcrumb topping sticks properly. Do not overbake to keep peppers tender but firm. For extra crunch, toast breadcrumbs in a dry pan before using.
