Description
A quick and easy 15-minute weeknight dinner featuring flaky salmon fillets seared to perfection and coated in a sticky, sweet, and savory honey garlic glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1.5 pounds salmon fillets (skin-on recommended)
- 2 tablespoons neutral oil (avocado or light olive oil)
- 1/2 cup pure honey
- 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
- 4 large cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 2 stalks green onions, sliced thinly
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, toasted
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Pat salmon fillets completely dry with paper towels and season both sides lightly with salt and black pepper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes until combined.
- Heat a large skillet (preferably cast-iron or non-stick) over medium-high heat and add oil. Heat until shimmering.
- Place salmon fillets in the pan, skin-side down. Do not move them for 4-5 minutes to allow a crispy crust to form.
- Carefully flip the salmon and cook for another 3-4 minutes until opaque and flaking easily with a fork. Remove fish from pan and set aside on a plate, covering loosely with foil.
- Reduce heat to medium-low. Pour the sauce mixture into the same pan, scraping up browned bits from the bottom.
- Simmer the sauce for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon.
- Return the salmon to the pan, turning gently to coat in the glaze. Spoon sauce over the top.
- Remove from heat immediately. Garnish with green onions and toasted sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
Notes
Patting the fish dry is crucial for crispiness. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary. Garlic burns quickly, so watch the sauce closely. For a vegan version, substitute honey with maple syrup and salmon with firm tofu.
