Crispy Jalapeño Popper Egg Rolls: The Easiest Party Appetizer

  • Author: angela_woods
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

These crispy jalapeño popper egg rolls combine spicy jalapeños, creamy cream cheese, and sharp cheddar in a delicate wonton wrapper. They are the ultimate crowd-pleasing appetizer that is quick to make and perfect for game day or parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 46 medium jalapeños, finely diced (seeds removed for less heat)
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup cooked and crumbled bacon bits
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 23 stalks green onions, thinly sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 package wonton wrappers (4050 wrappers)
  • Vegetable, canola, or peanut oil for frying
  • 1 egg beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • ½ cup ranch dressing
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, bacon bits, diced jalapeños, garlic powder, onion powder, and green onions. Mix until evenly distributed and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Place a wonton wrapper in a diamond shape. Spoon 1-2 tablespoons of filling onto the bottom point.
  4. Fold the bottom point up over the filling, then fold in the left and right points to create an envelope shape.
  5. Brush the top point with egg wash and roll the wrapper up tightly, sealing the top point.
  6. Carefully lower egg rolls into hot oil in batches. Fry for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a wire rack or paper towel-lined plate.
  8. While frying, whisk together ranch dressing, sour cream, and hot sauce to make the dipping sauce.
  9. Serve immediately with the dipping sauce.

Notes

Ensure oil is at 350°F to prevent greasy results. Do not overcrowd the pan. For a vegetarian version, omit bacon and use plant-based alternatives. Can be baked at 400°F for 15-20 minutes if frying is not desired, though texture will differ. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days; reheat in an air fryer or oven to maintain crispiness.
