Honey Garlic Shrimp Bowls: Easy 15-Minute Weeknight Meal

  • Author: angela_woods
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick and flavorful weeknight dinner featuring jumbo shrimp tossed in a glossy, sweet, and garlicky honey-soy sauce, served over steamed rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound jumbo or extra large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 45 cloves fresh garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon neutral oil (avocado or vegetable)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Green onions, sliced for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for sprinkling
  • Steamed rice or noodles for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp dry with paper towels and season lightly with salt and pepper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes until the honey is dissolved.
  3. Heat neutral oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  4. Add shrimp in a single layer and cook for 2 minutes on the first side until pink, then flip and cook for 1 more minute. Remove shrimp from the pan.
  5. In the same pan, sauté minced garlic and grated ginger for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  6. Return shrimp to the pan, pour the sauce over them, and toss to coat. Cook for 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens and glazes the shrimp.
  7. Remove from heat, drizzle with sesame oil, and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately over rice.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure proper searing. Shrimp are done when they form a ‘C’ shape; avoid the ‘O’ shape which indicates overcooking. For a gluten-free version, substitute soy sauce with tamari. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days.
